When do applications open?

Applications open in August 2018.

How do I apply?

What criteria is used to assess my event?

Applications are assessed on the strength of their relevance to sustainability and the Festival program theme. SLF is seeking highly creative and leading edge content. Click here for more information about SLF's selection process.

Where can Festival events be held?

Events can be staged anywhere within Victoria. For Big Weekend events please see below.

How do I apply to run an event at the Festival’s Big Weekend?

A limited number of places are available for high profile and leading-edge content within the Festival’s Big Weekend program at Fed Square and Birrarung Marr. You can apply here for these limited places.

How do I find a venue?

Event organisers are required to find their own venues. SLF has a limited number of partner venues that can be used by participating event organisers. Please see the venue list for more information.

if successful, Festival Big Weekend applications will be allocated a venue at Fed Square or Birrarung Marr.

Can I ticket my event?

Yes, event organisers are free to set their own ticket price. Please note if you are applying to hold an event in the Festival’s Big Weekend program you cannot charge for your event.

Are there costs associated with holding an event?

No, there are no fees or charges for running an event in association with the Festival. SLF runs on public donations, grants and sponsorship to produce the event each year. Donations can be made here.


What level of promotions will SLF do for my event?

SLF provides online promotions to all approved events.

Event organisers can upgrade their promotional level at discounted advertising rates.

It’s important for you to develop your audience in an independent way.


Can I amend my event application?

Once your application has been submitted you can't access the online form to make changes. However, updates to your event application can be made if your event is approved.

What if I don't have all the details finalised yet?

We encourage event applications even if some details are yet to be confirmed.

Timeliness is more important than full completeness of information.

When will I receive confirmation about my event application?

Once you have submitted your application you will immediately receive a confirmation email. Please keep a copy of this email for your reference. A member of the Festival's programming team will be in contact with you to confirm the outcome of your application within 5 working days.
